Kate was first introduced to Dr. Hildrud Strasser's methods in 2001. At that time she had a large percentage of their horses shod and covered. Although they still were not riding with bits, KRC were spending a phenomenal amount in Veterinary bills each month, because of injuries caused by shod horses, lameness and ailments due to the fact that the horses were not healthy.
Deciding to follow the advice they were given, KRC developed the property into a rehabilitation yard, as well as a riding school. With tracks put down around the perimeter of the property, trimming pads and footbaths built, the place turned into, and still is today, one of the biggest and busiest barefoot setups in the world.
Kate now provides a service to anyone and everyone. She wants to help, and be a part of the change in the way we care for and ride horses, because they discovered this different way of Horsemanship is the right way for the horse.
There is a tendency to follow traditional methods religiously. But even those methods change, because someone finds a way that works, a way that is easy and natural for the horse and safe for the handler / rider. You only have to look at how they used to break horses in. 'Break' being the operative word. This was tradition and the way that it was just done. No one would dream in our society of teaching and practicing those methods today.
So Kate has been working on a way of riding and more recently proper horse care, and are offering to help people have a different and more satisfying relationship with their horse in and out of the saddle.
